P272 Legislation
P272 is a regulatory change which as of April 2017 will alter the way business energy use is metered and invoiced. Ofgem are introducing the legislation to incentivised both the suppliers and consumers to reduce consumption at peak demand times.
Initially only Electricity meters with a profile classed 05 – 08 (Maximum Demand) are affected and will be migrated to 00 (Half Hourly).

Half hourly data will provide more accurate invoices. However, depending on the existing pattern of consumption, some customers will see a fall in costs, while others will see a rise.
As a half hourly customer, you will also need to appoint an accredited Data Collection agent (DC) and Meter Operator (MOP), both of which will be an additional cost.
Cardinal Energy Group provide our clients the following:
- Competitive MOP & DC agreements
- Analyse consumption trends / Obtain HH data
- Establish whether a kVA charge is going to apply
- Offer advice around fixed and pass through contracts
- Bespoke contracts – both fixed and pass through
- Early Procurement – We can contract half hourly meters years in advance
